FIRTHs and FRITHs of Northern England

This site is about families named FIRTH who in the 19th century were living in Northen England – primarily Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, plus a few elsewhere. A handful of them are my ancestors, but the other several thousand are not directly related; they just happen to share the same surname. You'll also find a great many FRITHs here; the two names are so commonly mis-transcribed that it's almost impossible to research them independently.

I have compiled the data from a variety of online resources. The information has not been checked against original BMD certificates, and is therefore certain to be incorrect in places. If you find any significant errors or omissions, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

A version of the information presented here is also available in a more visual form at ancestry.co.uk, and at zoompast.org.

In addition to the genealogical data itself, you'll also find my Research Recommendations, where I attempt to explain the principles underlying this research.
